General Purpose & Position Summary:  The Safety Director is a motivated, energetic and self leading individual whom shall organize, coordinate, and administer safety standards which aim to reduce the number and severity of job site incidents, while maintaining the efficiency of the company and well being of its employees, customers and the community in accordance with corporate policies, procedures and all government regulations. The Safety Director will be responsible with conducting site visits with the goal of assessing and mitigating hazardous work conditions and ensures site workers are trained and equipped to perform their jobs safely. 

Work Schedule: 40+ hours per week Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Research regulations, initiate and develop policies and procedures that implement, maintain, and enforce the ICS Safety and Health Program while ensuring state and federal regulatory compliance, along with owner policy compliance.  

  • Develop and deliver appropriate safety training to personnel through orientations, web

    based training, manage safety bulletins, memos and meetings to establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment.

  • Manage all ICS Injuries/Claims, work related and non-work related communications with the clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation, follow-up appointments, physical therapy & drug testing.

  • Investigate & document any incident or near misses to determine root cause and provide coaching as needed.

  • Maintain scheduled safety training for Project Managers, Superintendents, company staff and field employees.

  • Ensure safety goals are achieved on every project with zero incidents or near misses.

  • Conduct new hire onboarding orientation.

  • Ensure employees are trained in safe practices and have all the resources necessary and training to work complete their job tasks.  Such Training shall be documented and filed as required.

  • Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact for resolution.

  • Maintain scheduled safety training for Project Managers, Superintendents, company staff and field employees.

  • Controls hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee practices through site visits, safety plans, and education of all supervisory personnel.

  • Develops job-specific safety plans, schedule weekly jobsite visits and safety audits.

  • Provides oversight to safety performance measurement reporting.

  • Reviews documentation to insure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures.

  • Oversee safety equipment.

  • Ensures completion of all required reporting and permitting.

  • Analyzes and recommends corrective action for all accidents.

  • Lead Safety Committee.

  • Be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week for on call services to support the team on safety related topics as needed.

  • Secondary support to HR as needed.

  • Posting of all safety bulletins, safety posters, safety rules, and applicable legislation.

  • Plan and facilitate Annual Safety Meeting.

Required Education

  • Degree in safety or occupational health, business management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Safety Administration and extensive knowledge of OSHA and Federal Safety Regulations


Required Skills/Licenses/Certifications

  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing

  • Performance Coaching & Leadership, with ability to delegate authority

  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs

  • Knowledge of MSHA, DOT Regulator environments

  • Knowledge of behavioral-based safety principles and practices

  • Knowledge of accident prevention and safety equipment

  • Strong knowledge in managing Worker’s Comp and Insurance Claims

  • Strong presence when speaking with groups or public speaking during training

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The overall nature of the position is sedentary in nature requiring little physical effort and occasional light physical exertion.  There is occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, temperature changes, industrial noise, and construction hazards usually accompanied by business travel and visits jobsites and clients.

  • The constant physical demands of the position are talking and hearing.

  • The frequent physical demands of the position are sitting, standing and walking.

  • The occasional physical demands of the position are carrying, pushing, pulling, handling, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.

Travel Requirement

  • This position may have over-the-road travel and air travel.
