Tessier’s Inc., the Midwest’s premier mechanical contractor, has an immediate opening for the full-time position of Preconstruction Leader. The Preconstruction Leader will be involved in all aspects of the company’s preconstruction and estimating activities ranging from maintaining relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to overseeing the estimating process.  This position will report directly to the Vice President.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Establish and maintain budget control over the mechanical contracting trades during estimating and preconstruction phases and provide value alternative solutions where applicable
  • Oversee preparation of budgets and cost estimates (including value engineering when applicable) for design-build, design-assist, and hard bid projects
  • Collaborate with vendors, subcontractors, and other trades during the estimating and preconstruction phases
  • Process RFI’s during the estimating and preconstruction phases
  • Interface between the mechanical contracting trades, design team, general contractor and/or owner during project negotiation and qualification phases
  • Oversee post-award HVAC project buyouts
  • Lead, mentor, and train the preconstruction and estimating staff


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or other applicable field is strongly preferred
  • Five years of preconstruction and estimating experience is preferred
  • A background in the HVAC, plumbing, and piping arena is preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven experience with preconstruction and estimating activities on medium to large construction projects with experience on healthcare, manufacturing, and industrial projects a plus
  • Ability to lead multiple potential projects through the preconstruction and estimating process
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, etc.
  • Highly skilled in reading and understanding construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Ability to prepare project proposal or bid documents
  • Proven track record of leading and developing a team
  • Ability to use TSI and/or other estimating programs
  • Strong computer proficiencies in the Microsoft suite of products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
